Buying a new computer?

Considering buying a new computer instead of fixing your old one?

It is true that computer longevity is less than your car or refrigerator.  However, there are many factors you should consider before laying out a few hundred dollars on some warehouse clearance model.  Perhaps a call to DMT Computer Solutions LLC can offer you much better value for your money. Here are some points to consider.

1. How old is your PC?

If your PC is more than 5 years old, replacing it will most definitely be the best option.  You will still need to set it up, and transfer all of your old programs and settings.  Please check out our rates for setting up your new computer and discover why we offer a much better value than those geeks.

BUT!!! if your PC is less than 5 years old please read consider the following factors before rushing off to replace a perfectly good computer.  It CAN run like new again, and it CAN run most new software available in stores.

2. Do you have a huge amount of peripherals such as a printer, scanner, or digital camera?  OR Do you have a large amount of games or other programs installed on your old PC?

All new PC-compatible computers these days are being sold with some version of Microsoft Windows Vista. While it is a fantastic operating system that offers many cool new features, those we-sell-everything stores do not mention that your old peripherals and programs may not work with your new PC.  So you need to consider the cost of buying a new printer, or camera, and the cost of buying the Vista compatible versions of your software.  These hidden costs can quickly drive up the cost of purchasing a new computer.

Additionally you should bear in mind that while Windows Vista is similar in form and function to previous versions of Windows, it is not identical, consider the number of hours it will cost you to re-learn how to use your computer and any new Vista compatible software you will need to buy.  Don't you have better things to spend your time on?  Rejuvenating your aging PC can save you much more than money, it saves you time.

3. Did your PC come with a Restore CD?

If it did, it is usually be very simple to return your PC to exactly the way it was when you brought it home on day 1.  Computers, unlike cars, do not get slower with age.  They have moving parts that do wear and tear, but the main culprit would likely, with our help, cost less than $200 to replace.  Replacing your hard drive and running the restore CD can easily, and cheaply return an old PC to its former glory.  Throw in a RAM or CPU upgrade and your old workhorse is transformed into a thoroughbred instantly for much less than the cost of a new PC.

So please consider these factors before purchasing a new computer.
